'Brutal Killing': Man Convicted In 2017 Lawrence YMCA Rooming House Slaying

A 67-year-old was convicted on Wednesday, March 15, of the beating death of another in a Lawrence YMCA rooming house in 2017. 

Martin Rodriguez was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday, March 15, in the killing of a man who lived at a Lawrence YMCA rooming house at 40 Lawrence St.

Martin Rodriguez was found guilty of first-degree murder following a weeklong trial for the killing of 53-year-old Jose Burgos, the Essex District Attorney's Office announced. Rodriguez was accused of beating Burgos to death with a baseball bat. 

The two lived at a boarding house at 40 Lawrence St. 

“This was a brutal crime, and I’m pleased the jury considered all of the evidence before delivering a just verdict,” Essex DA Paul F. Tucker said in a news release. 

Rodriguez's sentencing hearing is set for March 27.
